Gallery Educators
These dedicated volunteers serve as tour guides for youth, adult, and family groups at the Museum. The Gallery Educators train for 13 weeks, gaining an overview of Jewish history and of museum pedagogy while becoming familiar with the Museum's tours and exhibitions. Training begins in September and concludes in December, and consists of weekly classes lasting three to four hours. Following Training, Gallery Educators follow tours and begin to make presentations in the galleries during a Practicum of approximately 10 weeks. Once Practicum is complete, Gallery Educators will lead tours for visitors of all ages. To apply for the Gallery Educator program, please call 1.646.437.4284.

Time commitment: This year, we are looking for a core of Gallery Educators to volunteer to give tours during a four-hour shift once a week for at least a year after the completion of Training and Practicum. Alternate times for weekly shifts are available on an as-needed basis.

Speakers Bureau
The Museum sends volunteers into the community to address a variety of groups, ranging from schools and synagogues to nursing homes and community organizations through the Speakers Bureau. The Speakers meet thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds and introduce them to the importance of history, memory, and hope. This program is one of the most important outreach activities conducted by the Museum and is extremely effective in generating interest in the Museum and its subject matter. Interests of the Speakers are matched with the interests of the group requesting a Speaker.

Time commitment: 4 hour training plus Speakers Bureau commitments throughout the year. The speaking engagements will be arranged according to a schedule that you set up.

Associates Division
The Associates Division evolved from a dream of Rosa Strygler, a Holocaust Survivor and member of the New York Holocaust Memorial Commission, to involve members of the next generation in the creation of a Museum of Jewish Heritage. From a core handful of individuals, the Associates Division group has grown to over 2,500 men and women. The division spearheads two fundraisers, the Generation to Generation Dinner and the Annual Golf and Tennis Outing.

The Associates Board mission is to raise money and increase public awareness of the Museum and its mission; initiate outreach to cultivate new leadership; and to serve as a liaison between survivors and future generations. The Associates Board Co-Chairs are Howard Butnick, Helene Kener Gray and Rita Lerner.

Young Friends of the Museum
The mission of the Young Friends of the Museum is to inspire and involve the young professional community (ages 21-40) of the metropolitan area through social, educational, and philanthropic programming, to celebrate Jewish heritage, to carry the torch of remembrance of the Holocaust, and to shape the next generation of Jewish leadership.

Young Friends are directly involved in organizing and participating in a variety of programs. Their goal is to help further the Museum's fundraising objectives through public awareness of the Museum and its mission. This extraordinary and energetic group is the next generation of individuals committed to preserving Jewish history and its rich heritage.

Visitor Services
Meeting and greeting Museum visitors, checking parcels, crowd control, and handing out Museum information to guests are just some of the roles assigned to Museum Visitor Services Volunteers.

Time commitment: No initial training and the schedule is very flexible. Sunday availability is appreciated.

Edmond J. Safra Hall Volunteer Usher
Volunteers will be responsible for welcoming visitors to Edmond J. Safra Hall, escorting visitors to their seats, providing information on public programs and the Museum, and offering any assistance necessary for a pleasant visitor experience.

Requirements: Strong interpersonal skills, friendly and respectful demeanor, and customer service orientation. Knowledge of public programs and familiarity with the Museum is preferred. Volunteers will be requested to commit to one (3-4 hour) shift per week. The Museum's public programs are generally held on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. One brief training session will take place.

Administrative
As with any nonprofit organization, the Museum of Jewish Heritage can always benefit from volunteers willing to lend a hand to help the office run more smoothly and efficiently. Volunteers are needed in virtually all departments.

Time commitment: No initial training, but volunteers must come once a week during office hours.
