The High School Apprenticeship Program offers New York City public
high school students a challenging program of work and study as they learn
about Jewish heritage, the Holocaust, and what goes on "behind-the-scenes"
at a museum.

How the High School Apprenticeship Program Works:
From February through May, Apprentices participate in after-school seminars
twice a month. Noted scholars and Museum professionals lead these seminars,
which explore 20th century Jewish history in the context of the Museum's
collection and mission and prepare Apprentices for summer jobs at the Museum.
From July through mid-August, Apprentices have full-time paid positions
at the Museum. Through a close mentoring relationship with Museum staff,
Apprentices explore the curatorial, educational, administrative, and operational
sides of the Museum. The summer apprenticeship also includes film screenings,
field trips, and leading tours for summer youth groups.
Apprentices are paid for their participation in the program. Students of
all backgrounds from New York City public high schools are encouraged to
apply.

How to Become a High School Apprentice:
We seek mature, disciplined, articulate, and energetic students from New York City public high schools. Students must be prepared for challenging academic seminars (February-May) and full-time summer work (July-August) at the Museum. Completed applications should give insight into the student's intellectual curiosity, willingness to work hard, and personal integrity. Interested applicants must complete the student application form and essay questions, obtain a school transcript, and request a language arts or social studies teacher to complete the attached recommendation form. Interviews of applicants may be requested in January. |
Applications are due November 15. Training begins in February, followed
by full-time employment in July and August.
