DECEMBER

Armenian Golgotha: A Memoir of the Armenian Genocide, 1915-1918 by Grigoris Balakian —Translator and poet Peter Balakian presents the first English translation of his great uncle’s memoir on Wednesday, December 2 at 7 P.M.

 

FDR and the Jews—Historians Richard Breitman and Deborah E. Lipstadt, moderated by Museum director David G. Marwel, Ph.D. will distinguish policy from perception and discuss new evidence that challenges widely held opinions about FDR on Sunday, December 6, 2:30 P.M.

 

Sexually Speaking : Questions and Answers from Dr. Ruth—Dr. Ruth Westheimer will answer questions from singles and couples about dating and relationships on Wednesday, December 9 at 7 P.M.   (Pose your completely anonymous questions here.) at 7 P.M.

 

Tehilim — Director Raphaël Nadjari will discuss this film about a Jewish family in spiritual and financial turmoil as well as his new documentary, History of Israeli Cinema, on Wednesday, December 16 at 6:30 P.M.

 

Challah-lujah: The Tradition Continues— Museum favorite Joshua Nelson and his Kosher Gospel Choir return for another spectacular set of shows, including a new one-hour sing-along for children in the morning on Friday, December 25 at 11 A.M. & 1 P.M.

JANUARY

A Safe Haven: Harry S. Truman and the Founding of Israel—Authors Allis and Ronald Radosh present a suspenseful, moment-by-moment account of Truman's decision whether America should become the first nation to recognize Israel on Sunday, January 10 at 1:30 P.M.

The Afro-Semitic Experience presents The Road that Heals the Splintered Soul—Celebrate the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with this high-energy concert reflecting both Jewish and African diasphora heritages through music on Sunday, January 17 at 2 P.M.

A Cantor's Tale — Take a nostalgic, humorous, and heartfelt journey exploring Jewish liturgical music in this film screening on Wednesday, January 20 at 6:30 P.M. 

 

How to Write Our Parents' Wars — Writers and critics in history and literary studies will discuss the challenges we face in bringing the complicated narratives of the past into the present on Sunday, January 24 at 1:30 P.M.

 

THE PRIMO LEVI CENTER AND THE ITALIAN CULTURAL INSTITUTE PRESENT
JEWS IN ITALY DURING THE HOLOCAUST

Mussolini’s Camps: The Internment of Jewish Civilians in Fascist Italy Carlo Spartaco Capogreco, Alessandro Cassin, and Doris Schechter will discuss the unique situations of Jews in Italy during the Holocaust after a screening of the Italian documentary The Jews of Fossoli on Sunday, January 31 at 1:30 P.M.

L'Oro di Roma — This fictional cinematic account of actual events chronicling a Gestapo commander's plot to extort gold from members of Rome's Jewish community will be screened on Wednesday, February 3 at 2:30 P.M.

FEBRUARY

Is Diss A System? A Milt Gross Comic Reader — Author Ari Y. Kelman and editor Harry Katz will present some of the most hilarious work of Milt Gross, the forefather of American Jewish Humor, on Sunday, February 7 at 1:30 P.M.

Red Orchestra: The Story of the Berlin Underground and the Circle of Friends Who Resisted Hitler — Author Anne Nelson, filmmaker Stefan Roloff, and Museum curator Bonnie Gurewitsch will discuss this compelling account of the German Resistance on Wednesday, February 10 at 6:30 P.M.

 

The End of the Jews — Author Adam Mansbach will discuss his novel with journalist and author Joan Morgan on Wednesday, February 17 at 7 P.M. 

 

A Taste of Limmud — Participate in an evening of tours, workshops, and discussions designed to encourage discovery and learning for Jews of all backgrounds on Tuesday, February 23 at 7 P.M.
